How do I prepare for these injections? How do I prepare for these injections? A skin test is necessary four to six weeks before initial injections to determine if you are allergic. Skin testing only needs to be done once. If you move, simply bring documentation (physician office records) of successful collagen injections or negative skin testing to your new surgeon. What kind of anesthesia will be used? Most collagen injections in my office require no anesthesia at all. Rarely patients will request light oral sedation prior to injections. How are collagen injections done? Collagen injections are done by carefully injecting the collagen into the deeper (dermis) layer of the skin. Multiple small injections in a given line or wrinkle are necessary. How long will I be in the treatment room? The length of time it takes to complete collagen injections is about thirty minutes. You will spend about one hour in my office.
