How do I prepare for these treatments?
Skin preparation is a very important part of advanced skin care. This includes topical application of retinoic acid (Retin-A and Renova), hydroquinone (Melanex and Aldoquine Forte), vitamin C, vitamin E, and alphahydroxy acids (glycolic and lactic). It is necessary to also take some kind of antiviral medication (Zovirax, Valtrex) for three days before and three days after intense treatments. This reduces the risk of viral skin infections. What kind of anesthesia will be used? Most advanced skin care in my office requires no anesthesia at all. Intensive treatments (light to medium chemical peels) sometime require light oral sedation (Valium). How is advanced skin care done? Advanced skin care is done by mechanically or chemically removing the most superficial layers of the skin. The skin is treated weekly to gradually rejuvenate the skin. After intensive treatments a light moisturizer is placed to aid in skin healing. A personalized home care program is necessary to maximize the improvements. How long will I be in the treatment room? The length of time it takes to complete advanced skin care is about thirty minutes. You will spend about one hour in my office. Frequently other treatments are combined with advanced skin care increasing the time to complete the procedure.
