How much will it hurt?
Most patients experience little or no pain. Intensive treatments may
lead to tingling or light burning sensation that is easily controlled
with acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil). Ice packs and/or
cool moist packs also help with any discomfort.
Will there be dressings to care
for?
Light compression dressings must be worn for two days after treatment.
These may be removed to shower, then be replaced.
When can I shower after vein injections?
You may shower immediately after vein injections. Gently wash any treated
areas as you would your normal skin.
How long does it take to heal?
Bruising takes about two to three weeks to resolve. Any skin staining
takes six to twelve months to fade.
How long must I be off work?
You can usually return to work immediately after vein injections. Sometimes
after intensive treatments, you may want to take the remainder of the
day off. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time.
When do I come back to the office
for aftercare?
Your aftercare visits are completed at your next treatment appointment.
There are no charges for these aftercare office visits. You are welcome
to be seen in my office anytime you have questions or concerns about
your treatments.
When can I have a massage?
Body massage is very effective in relaxation. However, it cannot be
done while there is bruising of the skin due to the risk of long term
or permanent brown-gray staining of the skin. All therapeutic massage
treatments must be discontinued until any bruising has completely resolved.
When can I suntan after treatments?
Sun tanning damages your skin. It leads to wrinkling, discoloration,
and superficial growths. It can also lead to serious skin cancer. For
these reasons, I recommend that you use sun block with an SPF number
of 15 or greater at all times. A physical broad-spectrum sun block works
best. If you are exposed to the sun, I recommend that you protect treated
areas for six months with clothing such as pants or pareo. Better yet,
stay in the shade where it's cooler!
How long will the results last?
The results are usually long lasting (i.e. one to two years). To maintain
the best result, it is important that you avoid standing for long periods
of time.
